  1. The program is open to composers of all backgrounds, nationalities, religious affiliations, and gender identities.
  2. Because the program is taught online, applicants are not required to reside in the United States.
  3. The program is taught in English, and therefore a basic fluency in English is required.
  4. Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 by the application due date.
  5. Applicants must complete and submit the full application by the September 1, 2022 deadline.
  6. Jewish heritage is not a requirement, but a strong interest in Judaic composition must be demonstrated in your application.
  7. Accepted students must attend all monthly group lessons for the duration of the entire program which runs from October 2022 to September 2023. The schedule for all lesson times and lectures will be set at the beginning of the program and coordinated with consideration of students’ schedules and national time zone differences.  We will work to ensure that all lessons are accessible and completed.

Application for the 2022/2023 Academic Year (October 2022 through September 2023)
Application Deadline: September 1, 2022

STEP 1
  1. Complete the online application here.
  2. Submit three of your own original classical compositions that best represent your style and ability. Your score submissions do not need to be Judaic in nature for this application.  Works may be instrumental, vocal, choral, or any combination.
    • Submit a PDF score for each work. Scores must be fully notated using a music software notation program (No handwritten scores).
    • Submit audio recordings for each work (MP3 or WAV format). You may submit live recordings or midi recordings.
  1. Personal statement
    • Describe your education, musical background, and interest in Judaic music. Please also explore, in your opinion, what makes a piece of music Judaic in nature? (no more than two pages double spaced, approximately 600 words).

STEP 2

  1. Once applications are completed and submitted, a select number of semi-finalists will be asked to submit two letters of recommendation and will also be invited for an online interview in late September 2022.
  2. Finalists accepted into the program will then be notified by early October 2022.

This program is made possible in part through the generosity of the Max Factor Family Foundation.
